Position Overview:

The Huang Lab at New York University’s Department of Biology is seeking a motivated and independent individual to join as a Research Assistant. This position will involve providing support for various research projects aimed at investigating the DNA-binding specificities of transcription factors to better understand plant development and enhance stress resilience. The position is ideal for candidates preparing for a future research career and offers opportunities to gain technical skills, work with senior scientists, and potentially publish research findings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct genetics, cell, and molecular biology experiments focusing on transcriptional regulatory networks of bZIP and SPL transcription factors.
  • Perform DNA affinity purification sequencing (DAP-seq) experiments in Arabidopsis and crop species.
  • Care for and propagate plants and tissue cultures.
  • Prepare figures, analyze data, and assist in the publication of research manuscripts.
  • Utilize high-throughput sequencing methods and machine learning techniques to predict transcription factor target specificities.

Qualifications:

  • A BS or MS in Biology or a related field with coursework in plant molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, and biostatistics.
  • At least 2 years of research experience in plant biology, including plant care, DNA extraction, PCR, Western blotting, and gene cloning.
  • Flexibility to adapt working hours to research deadlines is a plus.

Salary: In accordance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position ranges from $56,000 to $58,000, depending on grant funding and research requirements.
