The Poromechanics Laboratory, led by Prof. Hyoung Suk Suh, at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Case Western Reserve University, is offering a fully funded Ph.D. position. The successful candidate will work on Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) and Environmental Geotechnics, including:
- Development of mathematical and computational frameworks for coupled thermo-hydro-chemo-mechanical processes in geomaterials.
- Multiscale modeling of multi-phase porous materials.
- Interpretable data-driven modeling of complex soil and rock behavior.
Start Date: Spring 2025.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Mechanics, or related fields.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Background in finite element methods, continuum mechanics, constitutive modeling, or parallel computing is highly desirable.
