Description: We are looking for an enthusiastic, determined, and self-starting PhD student to a conduct a 4-year human dimensions study on engaging agricultural landowners in northern bobwhite management. The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, and will be based in Athens, GA. The student will be co-advised by Dr. Elizabeth F. Pienaar (Associate Professor, UGA and leader of the Human Dimensions of Wildlife Conservation Lab) and Dr. James A. Martin (Professor, UGA and leader of the Gamebird and Managed Ecosystems Lab). The student will collaborate with state wildlife agencies and NGOs that focus on game bird conservation. Students in the Human Dimensions of Wildlife Conservation and GAME Labs are provided professional development that is specific to their career goals.
The successful candidate will:
- Conduct semi-structured interviews with private landowners in Georgia and Kansas;
- Design, pre-test and administer quantitative surveys that combine human dimensions and economics methods to ascertain how conservation programs can be designed to engage landowners in northern bobwhite management;
- Conduct qualitative analysis of interviews, and quantitative analysis of survey data;
- Present research findings at workshops and professional conferences;
- Engage in outreach and other research duties, as assigned.
Qualifications: MS degree conferred by August 1, 2024, in human dimensions, economics, wildlife management, or a related discipline. The student should be personable and maintain a commitment to collaborative teamwork to meet objectives. The student must be dedicated to open science practices.
