M.S. Assistantship: Message testing and Choice Experiment of Tall Wood Buildings: Case Studies in USA, Canada and Mexico at University of Arkansas at Monticello

The College of Forestry, Agriculture & Natural Resources at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is seeking applicants for a M.S. Assistantship available beginning August 16, 2024. The assistantship is half time and carries an annual stipend of $18,000 plus tuition and fees.

Project: A proposed strategy for mitigating the adverse environmental effects of conventional construction is promoting the utilization of wooden load-bearing material in the construction of multistory buildings (tall wood buildings/TWBs). However, an obstacle faced by this approach is that TWBS are still a specialized technological advancement that faces competition from other established construction methods, primarily the fabrication of concrete multistory buildings. In order to increase the adoption of TWBS, policymakers need to implement regulatory and market-based measures, as well as encourage societal acceptability.

This study aims to identify optimal targeted communications to improve public perceptions of wood as a tall building material and to examine public preferences on tall wood buildings (TWBs). A survey with panels, will be conducted in North America: USA, Canada, and Mexico. The panel will be selected to mirroring the demographic representation of census population (e.g., gender, age groups).

Requirements: Applicants must have a 2.7 overall undergraduate GPA or 3.0 GPA in the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate courses.
