We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for prospective PhD candidates interested in exploring the interface between emerging technologies and societal issues within the realm of marketing and consumer behaviour. Trinity Business School is looking for passionate individuals to work with Dr Xiaoning Liang and Professor Laurent Muzellec to investigate how emerging technologies can be leveraged to address pressing societal challenges.
Research Areas:
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in various areas at the intersection of emerging technologies and societal issues. Potential topics include but are not limited to:
- Sustainable consumption patterns in the era of digitalization and technological advancements.
- Innovative approaches leveraging technology (e.g., AR, VR, XR, GenAI, and etc.) to promote sustainable behaviours, such as recycling behaviours, waste management practices, sustainable tourism, and etc.
- Understanding the impact of emerging technologies on consumer well-being and welfare.
- Examining the effects of technology-driven marketing tactics on consumer decision-making and societal welfare.
Scholarship:
The successful candidate will be offered a Trinity Business Scholarship which includes an annual fee waiver equivalent to EU-fee level (renewable on an annual basis subject to satisfactory performance) and a stipend of €15k per annum (renewable on an annual basis subject to satisfactory academic performance). In addition, the successful candidate can apply for a Teaching Assistant post in the School with an annual salary of €8000. The scholarship is for 3 years.

Candidate Requirements:
We are seeking candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Passion in new technologies and motivations in addressing societal issues.
- Strong quantitative research skills with a demonstrated ability to conduct empirical research. Applicants with prior experience in experiment design, quantitative analysis, and statistical modelling are preferred.
- Excellent academic track record with outstanding undergraduate and/or postgraduate grades in relevant disciplines such as marketing, economics, psychology, or related fields.
- Fluency in English is essential, and candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both spoken and written forms.
- Prior experience working on research projects, either independently or as part of a team, will be considered favourably.

- A research proposal (not exceeding 3500 words, excluding bibliography list and appendices) outlining the candidate’s motivation, research objectives, and proposed research approach within the scope of the broad research areas mentioned above.
