BAC4RumA Scholarship Opportunity: 2 MSc and 2 PhD Positions
Background : Our project, “Bacteriocin-rich extract from engineered lactic acid bacteria as an antibiotic alternative for therapeutic and prophylactic use in ruminants and aquaculture (BAC4RumA),” is sponsored by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of the Government of Canada. This project is part of the Innovative Veterinary Solutions for Antimicrobial Resistance (InnoVet-AMR) 2 in food-producing animals, focusing on ruminants and aquaculture. BAC4RumA will explore and assess the effectiveness and cost-benefit of bacteriocin-rich extract (BRE) as an alternative to antibiotics (AB) for therapeutic and prophylactic use against bacterial infections in livestock and aquaculture.
Requirements : Applicants should be highly motivated and enthusiastic with background qualifications in Veterinary Medicine. MSc candidates should possess a DVM degree, while PhD candidates must also have earned an MSc degree in relevant fields. The MSc program will run for 18 months, and the PhD will last 3 years. PhD candidates will be required to carry out some of their research activities with our principal collaborating institutions: Instituto de Investigación Agroalimentarias (IRTA), Barcelona, Spain, and the Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL), UK. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed. Females are encouraged to apply.
Benefits : Successful candidates will be fully funded, covering tuition, living, and research expenses.
