Four fully-funded PhD studentships in peatland global change ecology at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), Canada

These positions are fully funded for four years, are under the research program of peatland global change ecology, generally studying the ecosystem function, in particular carbon cycling and greenhouse gas emissions, of boreal peatlands responds to climate change and human disturbance (e.g. peat mining and development, and restoration). We use both ecosystem modeling and empirical observation to address the fundamental research objective.

Two positions in peatland ecosystem modeling. The students will develop a process-based peatland ecosystem model to examine how peatland mining/drainage and restoration affect its hydrological dynamics, and thus how the changes in hydrology alter its carbon cycling and greenhouse gas emissions.

Two positions in peatland global change ecology based on field experiment. The students will study how agricultural drainage and climate change affect vegetation dynamics and microbial dynamics and thus carbon cycling, greenhouse gas emissions
