Graduate Research Assistantships (Ph.D.) in Agricultural & Biological Engineering

Position Description

Drs. Nuwan Wijewardane (https://apsslab.abe_msstate.edu/) and Xin Zhang (https://sites.google.com/view/xin.zhang.lab/home), from the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Mississippi State University (https://www.abe.msstate.edu/), are seeking applications for 2 Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) positions (PhD level) for a funded project focused on spectroscopy-based sensor development and uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) autonomous navigation research. Successful candidates should be self-motivated, creative, and willing to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment. They will be expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals and conference publications. The GRA will cover stipends, tuition waiver, and insurance, with the anticipated start date in Spring 2025.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or any related field with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • English writing and communication skills.
  • Non-English credentials must obtain a TOEFL score of 79 iBT or IELTS score of 6.5 or higher (GRE may be waived).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in spectroscopy and/or mechatronics.
  • Programming skills (e.g., ROS1/2, Python, R, or Matlab).
  • Proficiency in machine learning.
  • Record of previous scientific communications (journal articles and/or conference publications).
