The 3D Optical Sensing Laboratory (3DOSL) at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for multiple Ph.D. positions starting in Spring 2025 or Fall 2025. The selected candidates will collaborate with Dr. Beiwen Li on cutting-edge research to develop novel 3D optical sensing solutions and explore their applications in various fields, including:

  • In-situ monitoring for manufacturing and remanufacturing processes.
  • Surface characterization for precision engineering.
  • Robotics and machine vision applications in agriculture.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree Candidates:

  • A degree in a related STEM discipline such as Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics is required.
  • Strong programming skills are highly prioritized.

Master’s Degree Candidates:
Candidates with a master’s degree should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Optics
  • 3D Vision
  • Image Processing
  • Machine/Computer Vision
  • Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence
