Ph.D. Assistantship Opportunity (Fall 2024) in Education, Development, and Community Engagement Program

The Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education (https://aese.psu.edu/) at Pennsylvania State University is offering a fully-funded Ph.D. assistantship in our Education, Development, and Community Engagement Graduate Program (https://aese.psu.edu/graduate/edce) with a specific focus on Program Development and Evaluation or Extension Education starting Fall 2024! The funding is available through a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant project and support from the department.

The NSF-funded project’s social science portion focuses on:

  • Evaluating factors influencing Best Management Practices (BMP) implementation by farmers.
  • You’ll gain experience in program development & evaluation, extension education, and social science research.

The assistantship provides:

Responsibilities:

  • Literature review
  • Survey & interview protocol design
  • Data collection (interviews, surveys)
  • Reporting results (conferences, publications)
  • Assisting with undergraduate teaching (later in the program)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Ag Extension, Social Sciences, etc.)
  • Experience with social science research methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, data analysis)
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and independent work skills
  • Valid driver’s license (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Willingness to teach
