PhD in Tissue Engineering and Lung Cancer Modelling at RWTH University Aachen, Germany

We are looking for a highly motivated student interested in basic and applied research. The thesis will focus on the production of an in vitro airway model for the study of lung cancer pathogenesis and metastasis.

The Department of Biohybrid and Medical Textiles (>30 members) at the Institute of Applied Medical Engineering specializes in the development of tissue-engineering solutions to address clinical needs and provide models for basic research.

Position Details

  • Title: PhD in Tissue Engineering and Lung Cancer Modelling
  • Location: RWTH University Aachen, Germany
  • Department: Biohybrid and Medical Textiles, Institute of Applied Medical Engineering
  • Focus: Production of 3D organ-on-chip models using patient cells to mimic the tumor-healthy airway interface. Study of cell-cell interaction, development of a functional vasculature within the model, and the effect of tumor activity in the airway.
  • Language: Supervision and work environment will be in English.
  • Start Date: Within two months after the selection process closes.

Your Profile

  • Education: Master’s degree in biotechnology, biology, or a related field.
  • Skills: Experience with cell culture and other cell/molecular/organ-on-chip methods.
  • Attributes: Highly motivated, able to work and make decisions independently, and a strong interest in research and science.
