PhD Opportunity at University of Nevada Las Vegas: Functional Foods and Human Health Laboratory

I am thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Functional Foods and Human Health Laboratory as part of our Ph.D. program within the School of Integrated Health Sciences at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. We are seeking capable and ambitious candidates with a strong work ethic to complete a  starting Fall of 2024. Ideal candidates are passionate about advancing their understanding of interdisciplinary nutrition research focused on the effects of functional foods and/or dietary patterns on prevention, management, and treatment of chronic disease conditions.

Research Focus:

Our collaborative research at the Functional Foods and Human Health Laboratory is focused on understanding how functional foods, including whole foods, herbs/spices, nutraceuticals/extracts and dietary supplements improve or prevent chronic disease conditions, with a focus on cardiometabolic disorders and related conditions. We are also interested in examining the burden of disease conditions and how factors including dietary patterns, obesity, aging, cognitive decline, and functional performance/functionality may be associated with various health outcomes. Individuals interested in functional foods and their health benefits have the opportunity to contribute to discoveries and shape the future of nutrition research.

Qualifications:

We are seeking a candidate who is excited about nutrition research, with a solid academic record with relevant research and/or practical experience in nutrition, biology, biochemistry, kinesiology or related fields. Experience in clinical research is preferred, particularly related to participant recruitment, retention, day-to-day operations, data collection/management/analysis, and technical/scientific writing. A passion for scientific inquiry and a commitment to learning is essential. Successful applicants will exhibit excellent critical thinking skills and analytical skills coupled with a genuine enthusiasm for contributing to scientific discoveries.
