PhD Position in Gene Delivery to the Brain at IQS School of Engineering – Ramon Llull University, Barcelona
We are excited to announce a fully-funded PhD candidate position in the ChemSynBio research team at IQS School of Engineering, Ramon Llull University, Barcelona! Join our dynamic and innovative team to contribute to groundbreaking research on gene delivery for brain treatments.
About the ChemSynBio Group
At ChemSynBio (website), we blend chemical and synthetic biology to develop biotherapeutics and biomedical tools, focusing particularly on brain diseases and brain transport mechanisms. Our team strives for research excellence while fostering personal and professional growth.
About the Project
The project, Creating an Orthogonal Gate to the Brain (OBGate), has been awarded a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant. The goal is to overcome the low permeability of drugs across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) by developing innovative viral and non-viral gene delivery nanocarriers. These nanocarriers will selectively target the brain endothelium or brain tumor cells, enabling more efficient and specific treatment strategies.
As a PhD candidate, you will contribute to the entire development process, from designing, formulating, and characterizing nanocarriers to conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments.
