Dr. Jason Parent is recruiting two PhD students in Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Rhode Island. The students will work on projects involving GIS and remote sensing to support environmental research and climate resilience.
Project 1: Collaborate with the Environmental Data Center and National Park Service to identify opportunities for salt marsh migration in Northeastern U.S. National Parks using SLAMM and GIS analyses, supplemented by field surveys.
Project 2: Use GIS analyses to develop strategies for nature-based solutions (NBS) for climate resilience in Providence, RI; Manchester, NH; and Louisville, KY. The project will involve estimating local perceptions of NBS and identifying suitable locations for future NBS.
Qualifications:
- BS and MS degrees in natural resources, environmental science, ecology, geography, or related fields.
- Proficiency in GIS software and spatial analysis.
- Experience with remote sensing data (especially LiDAR) and Python scripting is preferred.
