The group of Dr. Dominic Winter at the Institute for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IBMB) of the Medical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University Bonn, invites applications for a full-time position as:
PhD Student (m/f/d) in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry and Mass Spectrometry-based Proteomics for Investigation of CLN3 protein-protein interactions and their alteration due to disease-causing mutations
Project description
We seek a highly motivated PhD student candidate for the analysis of lysosomal protein-protein interactions and complexes for a project funded by the NCL foundation (www.ncl-stiftung.de). The successful applicant will investigate the lysosomal protein CLN3, mutations of which are causative for a Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis known as Batten Disease. The project will be addressed by a combination of state-of-the-art approaches for the investigation of lysosomal proteins, including cell/molecular biology as well as mass spectrometry-based proteomics techniques, with a focus on the investigation of the engagement of CLN3 in multi-protein assemblies.
Your profile
- Master’s degree in (molecular/cell) biology, biochemistry, or a similar degree
- Experience in molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, western blot, and microscopy
- Ideally experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics
- Strong communication, data visualization, and presentation skills
- Good command of the English and/or German languages
- Ability to work independently
We offer
The group of Dominic Winter is providing extensive knowledge in the field of lysosomal research and mass spectrometry-based proteomics. The successful applicant will be part of our highly international and interdisciplinary research team (www.winter-lab.org) located at the IBMB in Bonn, Germany. The institute is well-equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for biochemical and molecular biological experiments, including several mass spectrometers, for which the applicant can gain hands on experience. Furthermore, the applicant will become part of the highly international research network of the NCL foundation.
The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University Bonn is an international research university with > 38,000 students and recognized as one of the German Excellence Universities, providing international graduate schools, as well as a wide variety of extracurricular activities and student support. The IBMB, which hosts several research groups focusing on the investigation of cellular organelles, is part of the University Clinic Bonn (www.ukbonn.de), one of the leading university clinics in Germany, and affiliated to the medical faculty.
The position is available immediately for a duration of 3 years and funded by the NCL foundation. The University Clinic Bonn is supporting gender equality and we would therefore like to encourage applications from female scientists. Furthermore, we welcome applications of disabled applicants which will be treated favorably in case of similar qualification.
Please send your application including a cover letter describing your motivation and experience in the required topics, CV, bachelor and master certificates, publication record (if applicable), and letters of recommendation until the 21st of April 2024 as a single pdf document to Dr. Dominic Winter (dominic.winter@uni-bonn.de).
