A postdoctoral position is available in the Soleimanpour Lab at the University of Michigan.

This fully-funded fellowship opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in cell fate in islet development and the importance of mitochondria in various forms of diabetes. The lab’s research focuses on mitochondrial biology, disordered proteins, and mitochondrial regulation in diabetes.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree, who are dedicated to unraveling the molecular and genetic causes of diabetes. Our research employs pre-clinical models such as human islets, in vivo mitochondrial biosensors, high-resolution imaging, flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing, and ES-derived beta cell models. Whenever possible, we utilize human samples from donors with diabetes in our projects.

The successful fellow will receive mentoring in manuscript preparation, presentation skills at national/international conferences, and grant submissions to enhance their research skills. Additionally, they will participate in diabetes research supported by the Human Islet Research Network (HIRN), a global community of diabetes scientists. Candidates with previous training in beta cell biology are strongly encouraged to apply.

To express your interest in joining our group, please email Dr. Soleimanpour (ssol@umich.edu) with your CV, cover letter, and contact information for three references.

The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity, non-discriminatory employer. Fellows are compensated at or above the NIH salary scale and receive a comprehensive benefits package. Additionally, all fellows become members of the UM Postdoctoral Association, which offers support, advocacy, career planning, and advice to approximately 1,500 UM postdocs. Research integrity training, childcare/family support, and immigration support (if applicable) are available to all fellows.
