Teaching Assistant for Security Policy Studies MA Program AY2025/25: IAFF 6161 International Security Fall 2024 (August-December 2024) and IAFF 6162 Security Policy Analysis Spring 2025 (January-May 2025)
Teaching Assistants (TAS) for IAFF 6161 International Security and IAFF 6162 Security Policy Analysis will fill a variety of roles for the Security Policy Studies (SPS) M.A. Program in the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University.
For the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters, TAs will perform the following roles and tasks:
- Assist Professor Paul Williams to deliver IAFF 6161 and IAFF 6162, two MA-level required courses for SPS students.
- Understand the objectives and learning goals for IAFF 6161 and IAFF 6162 as well as the professor’s expectations.
- For each course, run and lead two, separate, in-person discussion sections (50 minutes each) held after the main course lecture on Mondays (7.10-8.00PM and 8.10-9.00PM). • Hold office hours; work with students one-on-one; learn about problems they are having with the course material.
- Grade course assignments.
- Communicate with students on a regular basis and provide academic feedback on course progress and performance.
- TA activities will involve a mixture of online and in-person working environments.
Work Schedule
TAs are expected to be present during course lectures (Mondays 5:10-7:00 PM), lead discussion sections (Mondays 7:10-8:00PM and 8:10-9:00 PM), hold weekly and regular (virtual) office hours (3 hours per week), and grade assignments.
Compensation
Depending on teaching experience and qualifications, TAs are paid $4,500-$5,500 per discussion section. TAs are not assigned more than two discussion sections per semester.
Qualifications
- At least ABD status in International Relations and/or Political Science with subfield expertise in international security.
