Position Announcement for 2 PhD and 1 MASc Students in Aerospace Applications at Concordia University, Montréal, Canada

Next-Generation High-Temperature Coatings for Aerospace Applications

The Concordia Materials Tribology & Characterization Lab is seeking highly motivated candidates for two PhD and one MASC positions in the field of materials tribology in extreme environments.

Project description:

This research project is a collaborative effort with aerospace industries involving three academic and industrial partners. The primary objective is to develop next-generation material systems with increased performance and durability for high-temperature applications in aerospace.

The project is led by Prof. Pantcho Stoyanov at Concordia University, this project offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge advancements in the field.

The successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Develop new coating strategies and optimize processes.
  • Investigate coating performance through mechanical and tribological testing across various temperature ranges.
  • Characterize specimens using specialized laboratory techniques including SEM/EDX, XRD, EBSD, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy.

Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree (for PhD candidates) or a bachelor’s degree (for MASC candidates) in material or mechanical engineering, applied physics or a relevant discipline.
  • Strong background in surface engineering, surface modification techniques (e.g., vapor deposition, thermal spray methods), and materials characterization and testing are highly desirable.
  • All applicants must meet the graduate admissions requirements at the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science.
